Formex REEF Automatic Chronometer COSC 300M

Formex Swiss Made Watches presents their new REEF Automatic Chronometer COSC 300M Dive watch along with a complete update of the company’s branding. The new collection reflects the quality and engineering of their popular Essence watch and adds the sports-character the Biel/Bienne based manufacturer is known for the past 20 years. A true Divers’ watch by design, the REEF comes with an officially COSC-certified mechanical Swiss caliber and unique features that make it wear more comfortably on the wrist. A watch configurator lets customers choose between a selection of different ceramic bezels and unique hand-finished dials. The new collection is now available for limited pre-order starting at $1,670.00 with delivery by December 2020.

New logo – Formex rebranded

Although this is a new watch announcement, what might be most eye-catching at first glance is a complete overhaul of the Formex branding. It’s been five years since Raphael Granito, a Biel/Bienne native, took over Formex and infuses the brand with knowhow, materials and engineered features from high-end watch manufacturing. By presenting a new logo that resonates with the new identity and quality of the most recent collections, Formex certainly also responds to feedback received by their community. The new icon shows Formex’s signature hexagon screw, a stylized F and X combined to an infinity loop that represents the commitment to manufacturing long-lasting quality timepieces.

New watch – the REEF Automatic Chronometer 300M

With a new dive watch and 32 possible configuration options, Formex’ new REEF Automatic Chronometer is a truly versatile underwater collection. The 42mm stainless-steel case with its distinctive shape provides both a functional guard for the screw-down crown and a stunning visual symmetry alike. A double gasket construction is designed and tested for 300 m / 1000 ft of water resistance. Mirror-polished bevels and brushed surfaces throughout create a unique balance between elegance and the brand’s high-octane spirit.

The REEF’s unidirectional rotatable bezel is one of the key functionalities of the watch. Being one of the most exposed parts, the bezel is made of an extremely hard and scratch-resistant Zirconium oxide ceramic. The graduations and numbers are engraved by femto-laser pulsations. Each bezel takes 60 minutes of precision engraving to achieve its three-dimensional effect. Machined gear-like indentations on the bezel’s edge allow a diver the ideal grip to safely set and monitor diving time and decompression stops. The 60 click action is responsive and smooth, yet offers firm and precise function of the bezel.

The sunray finished dial is manufactured at Formex’s in-house dial manufacture in the Jura mountains. The gradient for the different colors is sprayed by hand. The REEF’s bold rehaut-style hour markers are also hand-applied and triangle shaped, pointing towards the broad hour and minute hands that share the same detailed beveled mirror polish and brushed top surface finishing. Hands and hour markers as well as a capsule on the bezel’s zero marker are deep-filled with Swiss Super-LumiNova® BGW9 that emits a long-lasting blue glow in dark conditions. Being able to read the time with absolute certainty is a matter of survival when diving.

Powering the hands is a self-winding Swiss Made SW300 with date that comes in Sellita’s highest quality grade „Chronometer”, using top of the line components only found in Chronometer-grade movements. Formex purposely chose this thin movement as it allowed to construct the REEF at just 11.4mm thickness and a perceived height of 9.4mm. Each of the movements undergoes the COSC-certification process, a meticulous 15-day rate test to ensure extraordinary levels of mechanical accuracy and precision. Only the movements who pass the stringent assessment will be certified and engraved with a unique serial number. The movements’ power reserve extends to approximately 42 hours.

The REEF Automatic Chronometer 300M can be configured on the Formex Online Boutique with each 4 dial and bezel options as well as a stainless-steel bracelet and a rubber strap. Both the solid-link bracelet and the strap feature a buckle with a patented fine-adjustment system as well as a completely re-engineered and patented quick release system that allows to swap straps without the use of any tools. The collection is now available starting at $1,670.00 for limited pre-order and will be delivered in December 2020.

Formex CEO, Raphael Granito, said of the launch, …

… “I’ve spent the past 10 years passionately developing and producing watch parts for many brands out there. Here at Formex I am now able to use that knowledge and experience to create the best possible watches with the quality attributes and design features that are usually only found in high end timepieces at a much higher price tag. We designed and crafted the REEF to be the high-quality mechanical tool watch for the daily adventure, elegant enough to wear to your wedding.”

MITCH MASON DIVES INTO HISTORY TO BUILD A VERSATILE WATCH FOR THE MODERN MAN

Founded by Benedict Ong in 2019, Mitch Mason is based in Singapore with a vision to be a microbrand watch company that offers vintage inspired watches with contemporary purpose. Find out more at mitchmason.com.

Mitch Mason is launching on Kickstarter its first timepiece, the Mitch Mason Chronicle. The Chronicle is Mitch Mason’s interpretation of the ideal field watch, a perfect mix between modern functionality and vintage design. It sports an automatic movement, a 200m water resistance with a screw-down crown, and a sapphire crystal.

The Chronicle epitomizes the definition of the “daily beater” watch, inspired from the design of military field watches of World War II, a defining era in the world of watch-making where men transitioned from pocket to wrist watches for their evident practicality. On the battlefield, it became a priority for soldiers to have a means to coordinate their maneuvers with extreme precision, yet be able to read time at a glance in any situation. Stirred by the rich history of the timepiece, the Chronicle has a solid build, high-contrast dial, and generously applied Super-LumiNova® lume for efficient time reading under all conditions.

The watch stays true to classic proportions. The modest 36.5mm case size and substantial 43.5mm lug to lug length yield the perfect balance between style and comfort for all wrist sizes. A blend of polishing and hand-brushing provides an elegant finish, only to enhance its versatility for wear in either elegant or adventurous environments. The distinct numerals and signature Mitch Mason hand-set provide excellent legibility, as expected of a field watch.

The Chronicle is built to withstand a beating. The fully machined 316L stainless steel case is decked out with a 200m water resistance, fortified by a screw-down crown and case-back. Its dial is protected with a double-domed sapphire crystal glass with 5 layers of anti-reflective coating on the underside.

Powered by the Miyota 9039 automatic movement, beating at 28,800bph (4Hz), the Chronicle offers 42 hours of power reserve. Hacking and hand winding functions enables one to synchronize the time with hairline accuracy on the go. Safeguarding every movement is a screw-down caseback, engraved with a delicate piece of artwork.

The Chronicle is a robust yet elegant series of history-inspired field watches from Mitch Mason, built for the modern individual. Available in four colorways, it is catered to suit any wrist and style, and to accompany you on all of your adventures.

Invicta Pro Diver 9094OB. English review

The Invicta Pro Diver 8926 is a classic and affordable sports watch with an automatic movement. The American brand has taken the opportunity to recently update it with the 9094 model, replacing the old caliber Miyota 8215 with a much more pleasant Seiko NH35 and offering it in different dial colors in addition to the already existing black. The 9094 that concerns us on this occasion has a beautiful sphere in iridescent blue and a bezel in the same color.

Introduction

The history of Invicta Watch Group is similar to the Rotary and Bulova ones. Invicta Watch Group was founded by Raphael Picard in 1837 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, therefore it has much more history than most Swiss brands. Invicta in Latin meaning “invincible”, wanted to create reliable and durable Swiss watches at reasonable prices. It was fairly successful, until the company went bankrupt with the quartz crisis in the 1970s. In 1991, some descendants of the family acquired the brand, and based it in the United States, giving it a new direction, long before Stührling decided to do something similar and worse in 1999.

I have seen the Pro Diver for more than 15 years on the market, and it has had a remarkable sales success. The keys are simple, first, its recognizable design, homage to the Rolex Submariner Date (reference 116619LB), which even if its defenders have requested it with the blue dial, it is only available in white gold at the price of €36,500, the steel version only exists in black or green for €8,500.

The second, its value for money, exceeding what Chinese watches offer.

THE VINTAGE TOUCH.
THE EXCLUSIVE TOUCH.

The Exclusive Touch.”

Christopher Ward launches NEW C65 Anthropocene

The NEW icy white C65 Anthropocene is a 300-piece limited edition timepiece inspired by the ‘era’ and environmental buzzword everyone’s talking about and the opera production which brings it to life.

This is a watch whose story carries a distinctly personal touch for Christopher Ward. Mike France, CEO and Co-Founder at Christopher Ward, comments: “The roots of the C65 Anthropocene can be traced back to when my daughter, Jennifer France, played “Ice”, a leading role in Scottish Opera’s 2019 production of ‘Anthropocene’. The ethereal visuals of the opera’s frozen landscape spurred my mind into action and theC65 Anthropocene was born.Humans’ impact on the earth’s ecosystem (in the era now known as ‘the Anthropocene’) is a big topic for an opera, never mind a watch design, to address – too big, arguably – but in our own way, we want to do everything we can to highlight the issue. Contributing 5% of our sales from this watch to the eco charity an environmental charity selected for Christopher Ward by Scottish Opera composed Stuart MacRae, is our own small but meaningful gesture.”

This limited-edition version of the best-selling 1960s-inspired diver integrates the polar setting of ‘Anthropocene’ into its aesthetic whilst retaining the distinctive design DNA of the C65 range. The Christopher Ward signature ‘light-catcher’ case design is a feature along with the distinctive trident emblem deep-stamped into the backplate. The dial of the new watch is finished in pure matte white, with an inclined ring around its exterior conveying a sense of depth.  White Super-LumiNova® is used throughout, upholding its snowed-out aesthetic. In striking contrast, a new black PVD finish has been used for the hands which matches the anodized aluminum 24-hour bezel insert.

The C65 Anthropocene is a watch born for travel thanks to its Sellita SW330 automatic GMT movement. This Swiss-made calibre features a fourth orange-tipped GMT hand which is read against the 24-hour bezel, allowing its wearer to simultaneously track the time in another time zone. An anti-shock system for the C65 Anthropocene’s movement provides extra protection for the more adventurous of owners, all whilst maintaining a smooth eight ticks per second.

The C65 Anthropocene
is available now from £995/$1135 and can be purchased on a quality vintage oak leather strap, a Hybrid rubber strap in black and black/orange or a stainless-steel bracelet with a quick-release system.
